    Description

A quick look at this wonderful casting would lead you to believe it was bronze.  Close inspection reveals it is cast iron.
He is so finely detailed that even the back of his trousers are perfect in the folds and wrinkles of the fabric.
He is a French peasant of the first half of the 19th or late 18th Century.  His face has remarkable expression and strength.  I believe he was made in France, but there are no markings.
    He stands on a 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" x 3/4" marble or slate base, which bears a few flea-bite chips - nothing major.
He stands 6" tall, without the base.
There is no damage that I can see.  There is some corrosion in the creases between his arms and torso, and on the basket, but it just provides a distinct patina.
Please examine the photos and ask questions before bidding, as this is sold AS IS.
    A rare and beautiful piece.
    Shipping includes appropriate U.S. insurance.
